Muriel is a dog trainer, AKC-Canine Good Citizen evaluator, and has been working in the rescue/rehab/rehoming of Airedale Terriers since 2002. FUNDRAISER UPDATE

Several days ago, we told you about the pet portrait fundraiser we are doing for ALAiredale Rescue, and showed you a jpg of the portrait that Artist Linda S. Young did of My Jack so that you could see a sample of her work. It was beautiful. Mom put the jpg on her iphone so every time she picks up her phone, she can see Jack.

It’s hard to judge the quality of a painting by looking at a jpg, but Mom and Amanda thought they could see an aura shining softly around Jack. They couldn’t bear having to wait to see the real artwork. But they did have to wait. Ms. Linda was sending it to us by Fedex. Because we live on a skinny road way deep in the woods where trucks can’t turn around, Mom told Ms. Linda to have Jack’s portrait delivered to daughter Amanda’s house in town. It was supposed to arrive within 2 business days.

Day Two came and we missed the Fedex delivery lady. WAILS OF WOE and GGROWLY GNASHING OF TEETH ensued throughout the Hooligan nation.

We missed Fedex on Day Three too! What the heck?? Is that delivery lady waiting around the corner to see when Amanda has to run pick up the kids from skrewell???

The painting finally arrived, perfectly packaged and intact and Mom went speeding from her office to get it. She was panting with excitement. When she got home with it, we all crowded around for the great unveiling.

Okay, here’s where we let Mom describe it to you. She says to tell you that Ms. Linda has a spiritual talent and that the painting expresses Jack’s noble, loving spirit perfectly. Mom says to tell you, she cried when she saw it.

For a $5.00 donation, you can register to win a portrait by Ms. Linda of your own pet. The proceeds all go to benefit ALAiredale Rescue (Alabama Airedale Rescue Coalition). The fundraiser goes through June 1^st, 2012. The winner will be announced on the website. You can purchase as many chances as you like. THINGS WE CAN DO WITH YOUR DONATION

Did you know that a donation of $9.00 will pay for a rabies innoculation?

$30.00 will purchase a microchip?

A health exam and heartworm test costs about $110.00.

For $20.00, we can get a harness and a leash for a newly rescued dog.

Bathing and grooming a rescued ADT costs around $50.00

$10.00 will cover approximately 100 miles of a transport.

$20.00 will buy a 50 pound bag of dog food.

Every dollar that is donated to ARC goes to help a rescued Airedale. Airedales Rock!

Sometimes, they literally rock. And roll. They are the most happy go lucky, hail fellow well met, best friend forever, stay the heck away from my treat dogs you'll ever meet. But they aren't a perfect dog for every family. ARC exists to help rescued Airedales in Alabama find and get to their forever homes.

Animal lovers are notorious for falling in love with movie dogs, dogs in commercials, dogs that win Best in Show, and dogs that look: a) cute; b) unusual; c) handsome; d) regal. Too many pet owners don't research the breed of dog they've fallen for, to be sure they will be fit companions for each other. The result is that millions of great dogs end up in shelters through no fault of their own.

Although they are known for being hyperactive, boisterous, stubborn and demanding, Airedales can be terrific canine companions for people who appreciate challenges and humor and sarcasm in their canines. Airedales are thinking dogs, and they expect their humans to be thinkers, too. Being in synch with an Airedale Terrier is a delightful experience beyond description.

If you've known other terrier-ists but never met an Airedale... well, it's kind of like a Jack Russell Terrier put into a 55 pound or bigger body. Definitely not a dog for a meek, mild human or for a human who doesn't want a committed relationship. Definitely NOT.
